Why you should stop boiling potatoes in water: A tasty alternative

Instructions:

1. Prepare the potatoes:

  • Peel the potatoes (if you wish) or leave the skin on to retain more structure and nutrients.

  • Cut the potatoes into even pieces (about 5 cm in size) to ensure even cooking.

2. Boil potatoes:

  • Place the sliced potatoes in a large pot and cover with cold water (about 2.5–5 cm above the potatoes).

  • Add a pinch of salt to the water.

  • Bring the pot to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat. Cook the potatoes for 15–20 minutes, or until tender and easily pierced with a knife.

3. Drain and mash the potatoes:

  • Drain the cooked potatoes in a sieve and return them to the pot or place them in a large mixing bowl.

  • Let them stand for about a minute to allow excess steam to evaporate.

4. Mash the potatoes:

  • Use a potato masher, fork, or potato ricer to mash the potatoes until they are smooth and fluffy.

  • Add the softened butter and continue blending until it is fully incorporated.

  • Gradually add milk (or cream) while mashing until the desired consistency is reached. Use more milk or cream for creamier potatoes.

5. Season to taste:

  • Season with salt and pepper. Stir well and taste.

  • Optional: Add chopped garlic, roasted garlic, sour cream, or grated cheese to enhance the flavor.

6. Serve:

  • Serve the mashed potatoes hot, garnished with a little butter, chives or other side dishes.

Tips:

  • Smoothness:   For the smoothest mashed potatoes, use a potato ricer or a food mill instead of a potato masher.

  • Flavor variations:   For a particularly rich flavor, you can add sour cream, cream cheese or roasted garlic.

  • Preparation:   You can prepare mashed potatoes in advance and store them in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat with a little extra milk to keep them creamy.

This   mashed potato dish   is the perfect side dish for almost any meal. Whether it's Thanksgiving, a family dinner, or a midweek meal – it's always a hit! Enjoy!
